5 Essential Oil Hacks for a Smell Good Home

Check out these fabulous low cost ways to keep your home smelling amazing everyday with essential oils. Here are 5 quick and easy hack that you can use right now.

I love using essential oils to make my home smell good because they are non-toxic (if you use ones that are TRUELY plant based), they can lift my mood, and they are very cost effective. I have been using essential oils for about 6 years now and I use them daily. Here are just a few of my favorite way to use them to make my house smell oh so good!

Hack #1 - Put a few drops of essential oils on your furnace filter

One of my favorite hacks for keeping my house smelling good is to put a few drops of essential oils on the furnace filter. This means that a lovely smell will flow through your home every time the furnace runs. Several great options of oils are: lemon for a refreshing scent, any citrus to uplift everyones mood, or try peppermint for an energizing scent. You only need a few drops.

Make sure that everyone living in the home likes that scent before you use it. Wild orange is my favorite to use this way.

Hack #2 - Clean garbage disposal

One area of the house that can cause a stink is the garbage disposal, if it isn't cleaned regularly. A quick way to do this is, first, run your disposal and then turn it off when all the leftover food has been removed, then turn off the water.

Then, in an empty bowl pour in 1 to 2 cups of baking soda and about 10 drops of lemon essential oil. Mix them together.

Next, pour mixture into the garbage disposal. Make sure that there is NO water running into the sink.

Then pour about a half cup of white vinegar slowly into the sink. Let it sit for awhile, at least 15 minutes. If you can, let it sit overnight.

Lastly, run hot water into the sink after it has sat for awhile. It will make the whole kitchen smell good.

Hack #3 - Room Spray

I live in a small house with my husband and sometimes our son, who is usually away at school. Our living room, front door/entry way, and kitchen are all together. I LOVE our nest and it works well for us, USUALLY! You see, the bathroom door is right off the living room and it can make things, well, awkward at times! This is when a room spray can come in very handy!

Try this room spray to freshen any room in your home including your bathroom.

Clean & Fragrant

10 drops of doTERRA's Refreshing Blend

5 drops Bergamot

5 drops Grapefruit

1 tsp Witch Hazel

2 oz Distilled Water

Mix all ingredients in a 4 oz. glass spray bottle. Shake well before use. You can spray directly into the toilet bowl before using or into the air after use or anywhere in your home.

Hack #4 - Toilet paper roll

Since we were talking about bathrooms, another good place to put oils is on the toilet paper cardboard roll. As the roll turns it freshens the air.

Hack #5 - Essential oils on a cotton ball

This last tip is a great idea for any of those smelly areas that are just gonna stink no matter what. This tip is quick and easy and you reap the benefits for a few weeks. DoTERRA has a Cleansing Blend that helps with odor like nobodies business. All you have to do is put 1-4 drops of this oil on a cotton ball and then put the cotton ball where you need it.

Several of my favorite places to put them are:

1. In the bottom of trash cans (put the liner on top of it)

2. In my vacuum bag and our small cordless DeWalt shop vac, inside the canister, that I use to suck up all the bugs that invade my house.

3. In really smelly shoes, a cotton ball in each shoe. This works great, just remember that the cotton balls are there on those mornings you are in a hurry.

Keep it smelling fresh everyday.
